Ratings

Find your level

Set Pointe ladders follow the USTA's National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP). If you have a USTA rating, use it. If not, read the descriptions below and pick the one that sounds most like your game today.

2.5

NTRP 2.5

Can keep a short, slow rally going with a player of similar level. Still learning to judge where the ball will land. Moves to the ball but covers limited court. Serves are mostly about getting the ball in.

3.0

NTRP 3.0

Hits medium-paced groundstrokes fairly consistently but has trouble controlling depth, direction and pace. In doubles, usually plays one up and one back.

3.5

NTRP 3.5

Strokes are more reliable and can be aimed on moderate-paced balls. Still building depth and variety. Starting to come to the net more and covers the court better. Serves with fewer double faults.

4.0

NTRP 4.0

Hits reliable forehands and backhands with depth and direction on moderate shots. Uses lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success. Sometimes forces errors with the serve. In doubles, works as a team with a partner.

4.5

NTRP 4.5

Uses power and spin and can handle pace. Moves well, controls depth and changes tactics during a match. Hits the first serve with power and places the second. Plays aggressively at the net in doubles.

5.0

NTRP 5.0

Reads the ball well and usually has one standout shot to build a game around. Regularly ends points on short balls, puts away volleys and uses drop shots, lobs and overheads with success. Second serves have good depth and spin.

Doubles: combined ratings

Doubles ladders use the sum of both partners' ratings. Two 3.5 players play on the 7.0 ladder. A 4.0 and a 3.5 play on 7.5. Your team may play on a ladder at or above your combined rating, and partners' ratings can't be more than 1.0 apart.
