Rules

Ladder rules

The short version: be on time, call your own lines fairly, and report your score the day you play.

League format

You earn points by playing matches, and those points set your place on the ladder. The ladder re-ranks every Sunday night using the matches reported that week.

USTA ratings

You don't need a USTA membership. If you do have a USTA rating, you may not join a ladder below it.

Play as much as you like

There's no limit on matches per week, and you can play anyone on your ladder. You may accept or decline any proposal. Players who don't play don't earn points and will slide down the ladder.

Proposals

Propose a match with a date, time and court and it appears for everyone on your ladder. If you accept a proposal that has a time and place, you are committed to showing up. The same goes for the player who posted it. If your plans change, cancel the proposal before anyone accepts. If it's already accepted, call your opponent.

The challenger

The player who posted the proposal is the challenger and earns a 2-point bonus. If the match is rescheduled, the original challenger stays the same.

Courts and guest fees

Players agree on where to play. If your court charges a guest fee, mark Court fee as Yes when you propose. Fees that weren't disclosed in advance are the host's to cover.

Match format

Best of three sets. Each set is first to 6 games, win by 2. At 6–6, play a set tiebreak: first to 7 points, win by 2. If both players agree before the match starts, a 10-point match tiebreak (first to 10, win by 2) can replace the third set.

Balls

Both players bring a new can. Open one. The winner keeps the unopened can and the loser takes the used balls.

Weather, darkness and interruptions

If a match is stopped by rain, darkness or losing the court, finish it from the exact score where you stopped as soon as you can. Write the score down so there's no dispute.

Forfeits

Arriving more than 15 minutes late is a forfeit. The player receiving it is credited with a 6–0, 6–0 win. Cancel with as much notice as you can, ideally a day or two, and call rather than email. If you cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, offer your opponent the forfeit. A no-show is always a forfeit.

Retiring hurt

If a player can't finish because of injury, the opponent is credited with the remaining games needed to complete the match. This is not entered as a forfeit.

Reporting scores

Either player enters the score on the ladder, ideally the same day. Scores are pending until the Sunday update. If a score is wrong, contact the league office before Sunday.

Withdrawing

If you're injured or unable to play before your first match of the season, you'll receive a one-time credit toward the next season.

Doubles teams

Men's and women's doubles teams may carry 2 to 4 players. Mixed doubles teams may carry up to 3. A team with 4 players may play only one match per day. Partners' combined rating must not exceed the ladder level.

Championship

At season's end the top two players or teams on each ladder play a final on a date they arrange. You may compete in at most two championship finals per season. The winner receives the next season free and a cash prize.

Conduct

Follow The Code from the USTA. All USTA rules apply. Contact details are for arranging Set Pointe matches only. Players must be 18 or older. Set Pointe may refuse or cancel membership for unsportsmanlike or disruptive behavior.
